Introduction of the essay
There are many ways of imagining how art and business overlap and intersect, but there is one particular manner in the arena of research or, more precisely, of ‘research and development’, as a vehicle of artistic creation, itself possibly a factor of innovation. They cannot be mutually reduced, but how can these praxes benefit from this situation of exchange, negotiation and reflective and forward-looking cooperation? What may the methods, challenges and pitfalls be?
A sociologist, a researcher at Orange Labs, and an artist attempted to answer these questions, based where need be on the experience of Samuel Bianchini’s Research and Creation company residency, called SouRCE, coordinated for Orange Labs by Emmanuel Mahe.
